My favorite thing about this book is how Nina notices that people, like her beloved flowers, will wither away without love and care, which is what happens to her older brother Darrio who has been transformed from the sparkling artistic gardener he once was in the Dominican Republic into a closed off, secretive, untrusting man in New York. I love that Nina tries to maintain her spirit and light in ways that fit her circumstances and that even the jaded Luis Santana recognizes Nina’s special light.<\/i><\/p>\n

All of my other books are contemporary standalones and this is the first in a sci-fi\/suspense trilogy. So just the genre change was exhilarating. Plus, having to set up a 3-book series with longer character arcs was such a fun and unique challenge! But I\u2019d have to say my favorite thing about this book is the fact that it has SO much going on. It has a sci-fi aspect (which really doesn\u2019t kick in until halfway through the book, so don\u2019t be fooled by the contemporary opening!), it has a mystery aspect (the entire book the reader, and the main character, is trying to answer the question: \u201cWho is Seraphina?\u201d and I think you\u2019ll be genuinely surprised by the answer!) and there\u2019s also a HUGE romance aspect to the story (that is really the heart of the entire book).
